The Flight from Duty, the Destruction of Matrimony, and the Dictatorship of Vanity

If, in the 18th and 19th centuries, the necessities created and imposed by the elite resulted in the emptying of the home, it was the ideological projects of the 20th century that sealed the ruin of the family through a much more subtle and destructive poison: ideological seduction. Once material advancement guaranteed basic survival and warded off the specter of starvation, the enemies of the Natural Order could no longer rely solely on despair to keep the utilitarian wheel turning. It was necessary to corrupt the will. Physical coercion was then replaced by the dictatorship of vanity.

In the Christian Order, work was understood as a vocation and a means of sanctification. The dignity of man did not reside in the title he flaunted before the world, but in the virtue with which he executed his craft. The shoemaker, the blacksmith, or the governess did not live tormented by the anguish of a false status. They knew that the greatness of a soul is measured by obedience to his Duty of State in life, and that perfection dwelled in the execution of honest work.

However, in the spirit of modernity, the whisper in man’s ear was the lie of disordered ambition. He was told that virtue was not enough; it was necessary to ascend, to dominate, to be applauded. Man was enslaved by the craving for illusory positions, throwing himself into the madness of the corporate gears and sacrificing his own honor to achieve a worldly recognition that dissipates in the wind.

Nevertheless, for the annihilation of the family to be absolute, the social engineers needed to strike their most perverse blow not only against motherhood, but against the very foundation that sustains society: the Sacrament of Matrimony itself. In the right Natural and Catholic Order, the family is a living body that breathes through Divine Hierarchy, where the husband acts as the head and the wife as the heart of the home. The sacred submission of the wife is, under no circumstances, a capitulation of her ontological dignity, but the voluntary recognition of the order necessary for family unity. If the man holds the primacy of government and external protection, the woman exercises the absolute sovereignty of love, virtue, and the formation of souls. The husband did not rule as a tyrant, but as one who bears the duty to sacrifice his own life for his family, following the example of Christ. It was this complementarity—the strength of the head sustained by the vitality of the heart—that guaranteed domestic harmony. The man faced the tempests of the world knowing that he had an ordered refuge to which he could return.

The architects of the modern world, forging the farce of what is today celebrated as “emancipation,” destroyed this vital complementarity. The woman was pushed into the labor market under the promise of equality, but the true purpose of the maneuver was to convert the guardian of the home into a “guerrilla” on the corporate battlefronts. By assuming the posture of co-provider, she was instructed to compete directly, to place herself in a grinding equality of friction with men on the streets, smiling and bowing to strange bosses, while her own home was abandoned.

The magnitude of this fraud reveals itself in its cruelty: man, alienated by the madness of the corporate world, lost his moral foundation and his safe haven. The woman, in turn, exhausting her vitality in roles where she will be promptly replaced and forgotten by the market, was stripped of her true essence. In the craving, instilled by the propagators of this farce, to be everything, she found herself hollowed out—she ceased to be the foundational wife, she ceased to be the irreplaceable mother, becoming just another disposable labor force. She returns to her roof exhausted, no longer possessing the strength to endure the sacred friction that true matrimonial union and the education of children demand.

To fill the abyss left by dead souls and broken homes, the entertainment and consumer industry offered the illusion of material progress. The contemporary adult, chronically fatigued, numbs his own mind with vulgar entertainment and disposable futilities—a circus far cruder than that of Ancient Rome. Blind to his Ultimate End, modern man intoxicates himself with pride over his own dominion over matter: humanity rejoices in its pride at launching metal rockets to the Moon, while abandoning to their own fate the primary and sacred duty of guiding immortal souls to Heaven.

It is this exhausted adult, seduced by vanity and blind to his true vocation, who voluntarily outsources his children (leaving them in the hands of strangers in daycares and schools) no longer out of absolute necessity, but out of the pure and selfish desire not to be bothered. The abandonment of souls was consolidated, at last, by supreme spiritual misery.

WARNING TO THE INCORRIGIBLE:

The Bibliographical Trench

For those who believe that the forced insertion of women into the corporate gears is a luminous gesture of “emancipation,” that unbridled careerism is the pinnacle of human dignity, or that the outsourcing of child-rearing is a legitimate right of the modern adult in search of “status,” and who demand to see the credentials of my denunciation against this fraud, I present this sample. This is the minimum requirement of intellectual honesty so that any objection is not merely dismissed as wounded vanity or progressive hysteria.

If you wish to refute what has been exposed here, do not do so with shallow feminist primers or corporate jargon about “success” and “equality.” Demand of yourself the effort to confront, in this basic introduction, the Doctrine and the thinkers who tore off the mask of this false liberation:

I. On the Sacred Hierarchy of Matrimony

Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Letter Casti Connubii. (The magisterial and irrefutable document that strikes down the lie of “equality of friction” between the sexes. Pius XI destroys the modern fallacy by reaffirming the ontological dignity of the family hierarchy, where the man holds the primacy of government (the head) and the woman exercises the absolute sovereignty of love (the heart). A lethal reading for any theology or sociology that attempts to equate the sacred with base egalitarianism).

II. On the Farce of "Emancipation" and the Corruption of Woman

G.K. Chesterton, What’s Wrong with the World. (The sarcastic and relentless denunciation of the egalitarian lie. Chesterton proves, with ironclad logic, that the market and feminism did not emancipate the woman, but executed the most cynical coup in history: they convinced the matriarch to abandon the sovereignty of her own home, where she was queen, to bow as an obedient servant to strange bosses on the production lines and in the offices).

Alice von Hildebrand, The Privilege of Being a Woman. (The philosophical demolition of secular feminism. Hildebrand proves that, in attempting to equal man in the pragmatic and corporate arena, woman was not elevated, but stripped of her spiritual superiority and her innate and irreplaceable capacity for motherhood and the protection of life, becoming a mere utilitarian gear).

III. On the Dictatorship of Vanity and the Idolatry of the Self

Christopher Lasch, The Culture of Narcissism. (The surgical diagnosis of the contemporary adult who, deprived of a transcendent end, idolizes his own career and his own pleasure. Lasch lays bare the selfishness of a chronically fatigued generation, which numbs itself with vulgar entertainments and views its own children not as a sacred duty, but as logistical encumbrances to be deposited in institutions).

Josef Pieper, Leisure, the Basis of Culture. (The definitive philosophical proof that the reduction of man to “total work” and the ambition for status destroyed the human capacity to contemplate the Truth. Pieper shows how corporate vanity blinds man to eternal realities, replacing his true vocation with a hysterical activism).

To those who seek the Truth: the greatness of your soul will not be measured by the corporate badges you flaunt before the world, but by the honor and sacrifice with which you sustain your own home.

To those who prefer worldly vanity: continue to sacrifice the souls of your children on the altar of your corporate selfishness, celebrating your so-called “emancipation” while you crawl for applause in a labor market that will replace you and forget you tomorrow.
